Best Bluetooth Motorcycle Helmets – Full Guide & Reviews

Close-up portrait

The best Bluetooth motorcycle helmets allow you to make phone calls, reject a call, answer a call, listen to music, or communicate with your fellow riders, using voice commands or by simply pressing a button. Many models come equipped with speakers and are Bluetooth compatible or come with a Bluetooth system already installed.

Bluetooth works via short-range networking technology. This technology allows you to pair the Bluetooth system with any type of Bluetooth enabled device, such as a tablet, MP3 player, or smartphone.

When you’re on the road, hands-free communication is a must.

Keeping both of your hands on the handlebars and your eyes on the road when you’re riding is crucial to your safety. These Bluetooth helmet systems allow you to stay in touch with family and friends, without compromising your safety or the safety of other drivers on the road.

Since these systems are integrated into your helmet, you can utilize a variety of features such as GPS navigation, voice dialing, and more, using simple voice prompts, which is a much safer option than pulling out your phone on your bike in traffic.

Essentially a Bluetooth helmet minimizes distraction on the road and provides a safe, convenient way for you to keep in touch with friends, family, work, and stay current with the weather, news, and traffic reports.

But not all helmets offer a reliable, solid performance. Some offer poor reception and low-quality speakers that can make it almost impossible to hear conversations, traffic reports, or your intercom system.

I’ve taken a closer look at several of the best-selling helmets on the market, and I’ve narrowed it down to six helmets that come loaded with all the right features you need to stay safe on the road.

Bluetooth Helmets Buyer’s Guide

When you’re out riding your motorcycle on the highway communicating with other riders can be dangerous and difficult. When you’re traveling across the country the risk is increased since you’re not sure where you’re going, don’t know of any upcoming hazards, and don’t know what to expect in terms of traffic or terrain. Because of this, most riders will avoid using their cell phones since it can lead to a serious accident and injury.

That’s where the Bluetooth helmets come in. When you’re riding your hands need to be on the handlebars, not dealing with your smartphone. These Innovative motorcycle helmets provide riders with a safer way to communicate with fellow travelers and allow them to keep their hands on their bike where they should be.

New Bluetooth helmet systems are much more affordable than they were just a few years ago. Additionally, the advances in technology have made them more reliable and effective than ever before. Many of the latest models now come equipped with a wide range of features and accessories including headphones and earbuds, and open, and closed designs.

Design

Over the years, Bluetooth helmet technology has come a long way. Using this type of system makes it safer to ride solo. Many of these helmets also offer top-of-the-line rider safety thanks to the addition of thick liners and tough visors.

A model that is ECE and DOT certified can also give you peace of mind knowing that the helmet has gone through extensive safety testing.

Bluetooth Options

The addition of important features such as group communication can make it easier and more fun to communicate with other riders in your group. When you’re shopping for a new helmet you’ll come across a couple of important terms. The first is integrated Bluetooth, and the second is Bluetooth ready. Before you hit the buy now button it’s important to understand the difference between these two options.

A model that offers integrated Bluetooth means that the helmet comes equipped with Bluetooth already installed. This means that you’re purchasing a Bluetooth communication system. This is a very affordable and hassle-free option. However, this type of Bluetooth helmet does come with a higher price tag.

Helmets that are categorized as Bluetooth ready are basically regular helmets that feature additional space inside the helmet that will allow you to install a separate Bluetooth system. This option is perfect for individuals who already own a Bluetooth headset and want to install the system in their helmet.

Since some of these models can be pretty pricey, I recommend learning how to lock your helmet to your motorcycle, if you plan on leaving your helmet on your bike when you’re meeting friends for dinner, on a date, or running errands around town.

Connectivity

One of the biggest reasons riders turn to this type of helmet is its ability to be paired with your smartphone. This will allow you to keep in touch with friends and family, and fellow riders.

Once the helmet has been paired with your phone you can answer calls, take advantage of the built-in GPS, or play music. Most models now offer voice connectivity so you can voice dial or receive calls using simple commands.

These helmets will come with their own dedicated apps and are compatible with most models of Android and iPhones.

Navigation

When you’re riding through new territory, GPS navigation is essential. With this feature, the phone will feed you information so you’ll know exactly what freeway exit to take, where to turn, and where the next rest stop is, and all without having to even glance at your phone.

But not all helmets offer GPS functionality, so if this feature is important to you make sure you check out the spec sheet before you buy, and ensure the helmet you’re interested in offers this important feature.

Group Use

Group communication will also be important if you’re traveling with fellow riders. However, each system will have a cap in terms of how many users can take part in group communication. Top-selling helmets will allow up to 12 or more riders to communicate, offering excellent sound and reception quality.

This feature is very similar to a conference call, allowing for several people to be on the line so everyone can communicate at the same time. This is also a great safety feature to have since riders who are further ahead of you can report back regarding accidents, weather, or any potential hazards in the road.

Audio Quality

Of course, A system can be completely useless if it has poor sound quality. If you want to be able to hear directions via the GPS feature, listen to music, or communicate with fellow riders, then the helmet should offer excellent sound quality.

High-quality systems now come equipped with a volume booster which is an important feature to have, especially if you’re traveling with a large group and are unable to clearly hear communication.

Music

If you want to listen to your favorite tunes as you’re riding across the country then you’ll want a model that offers music integration. Some helmets are more versatile than others.

Models that are versatile will allow you to connect to different devices and allow you to stream music from your MP3 player or smartphone. Additionally, top-of-the-line models will also allow you to share the music you’re streaming with fellow riders using the intercom system.

Safety

Regardless of the fun extra features a helmet comes with, safety will be the most important factor. Before you buy, check out a particular model’s safety certifications and its durability rating. Look for a model that is ECE and Dot certified.

Range

In terms of range capability, a top model will have a max limit of 1,000 feet. This simply means that you will be able to communicate with other riders at a determined distance before the signal is lost.

The range also refers to the device’s ability to hold a signal as long as it is within a certain distance from your phone or another Bluetooth enabled device. So if you want to stream music from your phone then your phone must remain within the helmet’s range capabilities.

Fit

Obviously, a helmet that fits properly and one that’s comfortable to wear will be essential. If you get a helmet that’s too tight or uncomfortable, then you may not wear it often. If you purchase a helmet that’s too large then it won’t offer the type of protection you need in the event of an accident.

Pay close attention to the manufacturer’s size charts and pick a model based on your size. Keep in mind that you will not have the same helmet size for every manufacturer. Because of this, it’s very important to pay attention to the actual measurements.

Weight

The weight of a helmet may not seem important now, but once you wear it out on the road for just a few hours, it can be very uncomfortable and can cause tension in the face, neck, chronic headaches, and more. Helmet weight is especially important if you’re looking for a model you can wear for a long cross-country trip with friends.

Many new riders mistakenly believe that a heavier helmet will provide better protection. However, while a heavy helmet can keep you safe on the road it’s not designed for all-day use. Additionally, if you’re riding around in hot weather, a heavy helmet can be extremely uncomfortable to wear.

Breathability

If you’re riding around during the summer, then you can expect to sweat, especially if you’re wearing a full-face helmet. However, you can stay nice and cool even if you’re wearing a full-face helmet as long as it has an excellent ventilation system.

These days, many models will come equipped with front installed systems only, however, you’ll need to look for a top-of-the-line model that offers ventilation at both the back and the front. This will help to promote airflow which will keep you nice and cool throughout your journey.

Final Thoughts

The best Bluetooth motorcycle helmets will keep you safe on the road, should feature intuitive controls, voice commands, and safety certification that ensures the helmet will remain intact and keep you safe, in the event of an accident.

The different features available allow you to remain in contact with your buddies and family when you’re on the road, which can be crucial, especially if you have kids or you’re waiting for an important call from work. These versatile helmets are more affordable than ever, so you should have no problem finding a model in my top six lineup that will meet your riding and communication needs, and work with your budget.
